At NōvaMind Wellness, we understand that adolescence is a time filled with challenges and transitions. It can be uniquely difficult for teens who are struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, or other mental health concerns to hold onto the routines they need in their lives, like attending school and building healthy relationships with peers and family. That’s why our After School Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) exists—to provide the right level of professional care and support while allowing teens to stay engaged with their regular activities outside of therapy.
We want parents to know one thing first: you are not alone, and neither is your child. If your teen is in crisis or dealing with emotional struggles, we’re here to offer a way forward. Through our after-school IOP program in New Jersey, we meet teens where they are and equip them with tools to overcome emotional challenges, grow as individuals, and build the resilience they need to thrive in their everyday lives.
An intensive outpatient program is a structured mental health treatment program designed to address significant psychological and emotional concerns while still allowing participants to live at home and maintain their daily commitments. Unlike inpatient programs, which require round-the-clock supervision, or partial hospitalization programs, which occupy most of the day, an IOP is more flexible.
Our After School IOP at NōvaMind Wellness is specifically tailored to teens who need extra support but don’t require a full-time or inpatient approach. The program is designed for teens who are balancing academics, extracurricular activities, and family life while working through mental health challenges. Our program runs after school hours, so your child doesn’t have to put their education or personal goals on hold.
IOP serves as a middle step for families and teens who may have tried weekly therapy sessions but need something more comprehensive, or for those who are transitioning back from inpatient or partial hospitalization care. The structure of our program provides focused and intensive care while keeping its impact on your teen’s daily life as minimal as possible.
We believe that every teen deserves to feel hopeful and supported—and every parent deserves a partner in promoting their child’s health and healing. Our After School IOP is centered around creating meaningful, evidence-based change while providing flexibility and a sense of normalcy for teens during their treatment journey.
Here’s how our program stands out:
Our program is built on proven therapeutic approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), psychoeducation, and family therapy to address the unique needs of adolescents. These methods are widely recognized for their effectiveness in treating anxiety, depression, mood disorders, and even trauma-related concerns.
Each teen in our program receives an individualized treatment plan tailored to their specific challenges, needs, and goals. Our team is here to teach skills and coping strategies that empower teens to regulate their emotions, improve their relationships, and enhance their overall mental wellness.
We know school, extracurriculars, and social connections can provide a sense of stability for your teen and are important to their growth and success. One of the key benefits of our After School IOP is that your teen doesn’t have to put these parts of their life on pause to focus on their mental health.
Our program runs after the school day has ended so there’s no disruption to your teen’s education. For parents, this also means you can maintain your usual routines rather than worrying about transportation to and from daytime treatment programs.
We don’t just work with teens—we work with families. We believe in taking a collaborative approach to therapy, which includes communication, guidance, and support for parents and caregivers. As a parent, you play an essential role in helping your teen heal and grow, and we want you to feel confident and empowered in that role.
Family therapy, parent education, and regular updates from our team are included in the program, giving you tools to better connect with your teen as they navigate their challenges. Your family doesn’t just receive treatment—you gain understanding.
We employ therapists who specialize in adolescent mental health and come from diverse professional backgrounds. Beyond their expertise, our team is made up of individuals who truly care about teens and their families. We know that seeking care can be daunting, especially for young people. The structure of the After School IOP is designed to provide teens with the right blend of therapeutic care, peer support, and personal reflection.
Much of the program involves group therapy, where teens will participate with peers who are facing similar challenges. Group therapy provides an opportunity to feel understood, share experiences, and practice social skills in a supportive and judgment-free environment. For adolescents, this sense of connection can be powerful on a personal and emotional level.
Our therapists guide group discussions in areas such as:
While group therapy is often the heart of IOP, one-on-one therapy sessions with a dedicated therapist are also part of the program. These sessions are tailored specifically to your teen’s individual needs and progress and provide an opportunity for more personal focus.
Family dynamics can play a major role in teens’ mental health. That’s why we prioritize family involvement and communication. Parents or caregivers will have opportunities to participate in family therapy and attend psychoeducational sessions designed just for them.
By involving the whole family, we help strengthen relationships, address conflict, and foster understanding so that teens feel supported in every part of their lives.
The after-school hours are an ideal time for teens to not only reflect on their challenges but to actively work on building strengths like emotional regulation, problem-solving, confident communication, and mindfulness. Skill-building activities rooted in CBT and DBT are a key component of our IOP. We give teens the tools they need to take ownership of their emotional health and face life’s challenges with confidence.
We work with most major insurance plans which can help cover up to 100% of the costs associated with treatment at our program.
The adolescent years shape so much of who we become, and we believe this is the perfect time to help teens discover their strengths, address challenges, and develop the tools needed to thrive emotionally, socially, and academically. Our After School IOP is designed not to simply treat symptoms, but to promote growth and a deeper understanding of mental well-being that lasts far beyond the time spent in our program.
Every single day, we’re driven by the belief that teens and their families are capable of creating real, lasting change—and we’re honored to be part of that journey.
"I'm just really grateful..."
"We couldn't be more grateful..."
